A Bleary Beat Down Aesthetic Emerges on KNØTTZ’s “HUMAN ATTRITION.”

KNØTTZ is a hardcore artist who has carved out his unique space within the rap genre. His dedication to his craft is evident in the music he creates, which is a personal, raw, and emotive expression of his life experiences. KNOTTZ's artistry is truly something to be appreciated, and music enthusiasts will undoubtedly continue to anticipate his future releases eagerly.

KNØTTZ delivers an unhinged mix of witch house, hip-hop, noise, and a whole slew of other styles on the kaleidoscopic “HUMAN ATTRITION.” From the aesthetics of the tempo to the pitched-down vocals, he recalls a little influence from Michigan’s SALEM. Much like that group, KNØTTZ has no hope whatsoever and makes no suggestions for salvation. The lyrics further drive this point home, with their cryptic eerie atmosphere washing over everything. So dire are these straits that the sound seems to burrow deeper and deeper into the abyss. A downward spiral for sure; their clever take on industrial noise feels quite Gothic in certain moments.

The riffs draw downwards as the grungy aspect takes shape. Interestingly, the dazed expressiveness of the guitar sets the tone for the arrangement. Beats are beyond broken, blasting about in an almost rhythmic fashion. Like a song warped into slowcore influences, theirs is a lumbering funeral procession. Many details add to this inherent sense of loss, the harshness of facing cruel reality. Unphased by anything else, the dirge continues with a slower tempo adding to the importance of endlessness. His voice has a guttural growl, feral in nature. The track has an outright evil feeling, like exploring all the worst impulses of humanity and how humanity bludgeoned itself into submission. Energy keeps this lower range, for the piece never needs to hurry up as it looks back on everything it has lost.

“HUMAN ATTRITION” has KNØTTZ present the soundtrack to giving up.
