Q: Tell us a little bit about your inspiration?
Andii Styron: Growing up, my father listened to basically everything. One of my early memories of getting into music was singing “Chain of Fools” in the back of my dad’s car. It took a bit longer to pick up the guitar, I did that when I was 15. From there things sort of piled up – I started performing only a year later, and at 18, I decided to move to West Palm Beach, FL from my small-town home in Monson, Massachusetts.
Q: Would you consider your EP “Thawing Out” to be your relationship release?
AS: I certainly hope not, as I am in a loving relationship right now. When I wrote “Thawing Out” I was in a less-than-healthy relationship so the music that came out of that experience served as a way to cope. I refused to make it about sadness though. It was more about the anger I felt, the self-love that I eventually tapped into, and just moving on from that bitterness. As therapeutic as it was, things did work out for the better. I am now engaged to the woman who I wrote those songs about. I’m happy that I found Kelly again and that I can now call her my fiancée. She genuinely supports me and cares about me. She even supports the songs that I wrote about her, which I’m not too sure many people could do! I hope everybody finds someone like her.
Q: How do you approach writing music?
AS: Usually I work out the lyrics and melody on guitar before anything. My music engineer Glenn Rockenstein produces basically all of my music so far. Being in the studio is wonderful because it is essentially the area where I can be the most creative.
