After a security guard was shot at Drake’s Toronto residence earlier this week and an intruder was arrested the next day, police returned to the rapper’s home on Thursday afternoon (May 9) after a trespasser got into an “altercation” with security guards.
This marks the third incident involving police at Drake’s home this week. Early on Tuesday morning, a security guard was shot in a drive-by incident and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. A day later, an intruder was arrested for attempting to break into the home, and was apprehended by police under the Ontario Mental Health Act.
Unlike the intruder event on Wednesday, yesterday’s trespasser was not arrested under the Mental Health Act, which conceals someone’s identity under the law. According to Toronto Police spokesperson Shannon Eames via USA Today, police were called to Drake’s home around 3:30 p.m. The trespasser was in an altercation with security guards before police arrival, and the intruder was later taken to the hospital.
The events at Drake’s home come after a heated weekend of diss tracks between him and Kendrick Lamar. The two have been sparring since Lamar dropped a verse in March on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” which set off a ripple of diss songs and videos. After the security guard shooting early Tuesday morning, police said that it was too early to know if the event was connected to the beef between the rappers.
It’s worth noting that Lamar featured an aerial image of Drake’s home on the cover of “Not Like Us,” a diss track that he dropped last Saturday. Fans and critics have become concerned that the back-and-forth could have real-life consequences, citing the battle between the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur.
