Music streaming giant Spotify and live event discovery platform Bandsintown have announced a new partnership aimed at enhancing live music discovery on the streaming platform.
This collaboration integrates Bandsintown event listings directly into Spotify, connecting artists with Spotify’s 602 million monthly active users while they listen and providing them with a new avenue to discover upcoming shows.
MBW has confirmed that the launch of Spotify’s Bandsintown partnership coincides with the end of the music streaming platform’s 13-year partnership with Warner Music Group-owned concert discovery platform, Songkick.
SPOT’s Songkick partnership appears to have come to an end over the past week, with an artist noting on Spotify’s community forum six days ago that Spotify was no longer able to add their tour dates to Spotify artist pages via SongKick, with the following message explaining why: “After 13 years, Spotify’s partnership with Songkick has come to a mutual end”.
Songkick was acquired by Warner Music Group in 2017 and currently reports to be used by more than 15 million music fans worldwide to discover concerts and buy tickets. Bandsintown reports to be used by 85 million fans.
Spotify also shares Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, Songkick, and AXS listings on its platform.
Spotify and Bandsintown see their collaboration as a solution, promising a more personalized live music experience for both artists and fans.
By linking artists’ Spotify profiles and publishing events on Bandsintown, artists gain access to a vast audience of fans. Bandsintown noted that Spotify has recorded a 10x increase in impressions for live events over the past year.
“BANDSINTOWN IS ON A MISSION TO HELP ARTISTS GET DISCOVERED AND SELL OUT SHOWS. WITH SPOTIFY ON BOARD, WE ARE BRINGING ARTISTS AND FANS CLOSER IN A WORLD WHERE EVERY SHOW COUNTS, AND EVERY FAN MATTERS.”
FABRICE SERGENT, BANDSINTOWN
The integration offers several key benefits for both sides. Artists can take advantage of Spotify’s massive user base to reach more potential fans. Their event listings will be automatically displayed on various surfaces within the Spotify app, including artist pages, the dedicated Live Events Feed, and the Now Playing View. This increased visibility can lead to better engagement and potentially stronger ticket sales.
For fans, the partnership makes discovering live music easier. They can now find upcoming concerts and festivals featuring their favorite artists directly within Spotify, eliminating the need to search multiple sources. This streamlined experience could encourage them to attend more shows, boosting overall live music attendance.
“WITH MORE CONCERT LISTINGS AND DATA DIRECTLY SOURCED FROM ARTISTS, THIS INTEGRATION GIVES ARTISTS MORE CONTROL TO UPDATE THEIR TOUR SCHEDULES ON SPOTIFY AND ULTIMATELY IMPROVES THE FAN EXPERIENCE OF DISCOVERING AND PURCHASING TICKETS.”
JON OSTROW, SPOTIFY
“Bandsintown is on a mission to help artists get discovered and sell out shows. With Spotify on board, we are bringing artists and fans closer in a world where every show counts, and every fan matters,” said Fabrice Sergent, co-founder and managing partner of Bandsintown.
Bandsintown.com lists over 1.5 million shows hosted by 600,000 artists hailing from 150+ countries. Catering to an extensive user base of 84 million, it delivers 3.7 billion personalized concert recommendations each year. The platform says it enhances event exposure through partnerships including with Amazon Music and Apple’s music recognition app Shazam.
Bandsintown also facilitates stronger artist-fan bonds via its suite of potent marketing tools, including Bandsintown For Artists, Bandsintown PRO tailored for venues, and Bandsintown Promoter for promoters’ advertising needs.
Jon Ostrow, Associate Director, Growth & Discovery, Live Events at Spotify, said: “Our partnership with Bandsintown reinforces our commitment to help artists connect with and monetize their fanbases.
“With more concert listings and data directly sourced from artists, this integration gives artists more control to update their tour schedules on Spotify and ultimately improves the fan experience of discovering and purchasing tickets.”
